The Colorado Legislature Failed To Pass Popular Data Center Safeguards.
Make Sure They Hear Our Disappointment.
This session, Colorado’s legislatures failed to pass SB 102 – that leaves Coloradans without any statewide guardrails around large scale (and hyperscale) data centers while in the middle of a building boom.
These large-scale data centers have been shown to spike energy bills of nearby communities, guzzle up drinking water, create huge heat islands, and increase air pollution. Colorado is already dealing with sky-high energy bills, a drought, high heat, and bad air. We don’t need new data centers to make it worse.
That’s why we expected Colorado’s leaders to step up and put Coloradans first by passing SB26-102 to address all of these issues. But they didn’t.
Now it is time to let them know we’re disappointed in their failure and we’ll be keeping the pressure on to get the job done during the next legislative session.
